Embedded Applications & Services

The software that makes a terminal work — on our Linux devices.

Runs on the terminal

Every Radical Linux terminal carries a small stack of purpose-built applications and services. They turn a general-purpose panel PC into a packing-line appliance: the browser the operator sees, the client that ties the terminal to its server, and the bridges that put serial hardware — card readers, scanners, weighing indicators — onto a websocket any web page can use.

All of it is installed and updated over the air from the package repository, and configured centrally from the SCADA & IOT Server — a scale or a page changes on the server, and the terminal follows, with nothing to edit on site.

Robot Browser

Kiosk browser for industrial terminals

Turns a touchscreen terminal into a single-purpose appliance: two fixed pages, no address bar, and nothing to wander off into. Sign-on by card, badge or code; locks itself and signs the worker off when left alone; network setup and server status built into a gloved-hand toolbar.

SCADA Client

Finds the server, and keeps the terminal in step with it

Discovers the SCADA server by DHCP or mDNS, registers the terminal, and receives its configuration — which pages it shows, which application it runs, whether it is secure, and what it is called. Publishes the connection state every other part of the terminal reads, and keeps the last config on disk so a terminal reboots as itself.

TTY WebSocket Bridge

Card readers and scanners, on a websocket

Puts a terminal's serial readers on a websocket, so an ordinary web page reads a card or a barcode with no plugin, driver or install. One bridge serves several readers over one connection and says which reader scanned; RDM6300 RFID decoding and repeat-collapsing included.

Scale WebSocket Bridge

Weighing indicators, on a websocket

Puts a terminal's weighing indicator on a websocket — each reading carries the weight, its units and whether it can be trusted. Five indicator protocols normalised to one message format; model, units and limits arrive with the SCADA server's configuration; a scale that goes quiet is reported offline.
